The 2024 G9 received more than 8,000 firm orders within 72 hours of launch, and deliveries began on September 21, Xpeng said.

Xpeng’s (NYSE: XPEV) remake of its flagship SUV, the G9, appears to be having initial success.

The 2024 G9 received more than 8,000 firm orders within 72 hours of launch, Xpeng announced on its social media channels today.

Deliveries of the new G9 began on September 21, Xpeng said.

“Our production volume will grow rapidly next to allow more customers to experience the premium smart driving experience that the G9 delivers as early as possible,” Xpeng said.

Xpeng launched the new G9 at an event in Dunhuang, Gansu province in northwest China, on the evening of September 19, with a starting price of RMB 263,900 ($36,160), RMB 46,000 lower than the RMB 309,900 of the old model.

Notably, the least expensive model of the old G9 is the G9 570 Plus, followed by the G9 570 Pro with a starting price of RMB 329,900.

Xpeng has removed the 570 Plus version from the new G9, with the lowest-priced being the 570 Pro version with a starting price of RMB 263,900. The starting price of the new G9 is RMB 66,000 lower compared to the 570 Pro version previously on sale.

The Xpeng G9 was initially launched on September 21, 2022, and the starting price of RMB 309,900 is competitive for a model based on the 800 V high-voltage platform.

However, the G9’s confusing configuration at launch last year sparked much dissatisfaction and overshadowed its appeal. Two days after the old G9 went on sale, Xpeng overhauled its options to make it less difficult for customers to choose.

The G9 delivered a record 4,020 units in December 2022, contributing 35.6 percent of the 11,292 Xpeng delivered that month, data monitored by CnEVPost showed.

The model has seen a significant drop in deliveries this year, with deliveries around 1,000 units in every month except January, when 2,249 units were delivered, and 616 units in August.

Xpeng has high hopes for the new G9, which its chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said at the launch event is expected to be the No. 1 seller of all-electric SUVs priced in the RMB 250,000 to RMB 300,000 range.
