The Model 3 was excluded from both the latest round of referral program announced today and the previous round announced on October 1.

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) today announced its latest round of referral incentives in China, after the previous round expired yesterday, but with reduced benefits.

Between November 1 and December 31, Chinese customers who order a Model Y, Model S, or Model X through a friend’s referral can earn a bonus, Tesla announced today on Weibo.

Buyers will receive a reward of RMB 1,750 yuan ($240), which can be used against the final payment of the vehicle, as well as a 90-day free trial of the Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) assisted driving software.

Referrers, on the other hand, will be rewarded with 7,000 bonus points that can be used when purchasing products including TeslaMic, supercharging mileage.

This is a continuation of Tesla’s referral rewards it offers in China. The program’s last round was announced on October 1 and expired on October 31.

In last month’s available rewards, buyers could receive a RMB 3,500 cash bonus that could be used against the purchase price of a car, as well as a 90-day free trial of the EAP. Referrers were rewarded with 7,000 bonus points.

This means that the latest referral bonus offers car buyers half the cash reward.

It’s also worth noting that in both last month’s and today’s referral bonus announcements, the applicable models are the Model Y, Model S, and Model X, while the Model 3 sedan is excluded.

Tesla’s Shanghai factory produces the Model 3 and Model Y, while the Model S and Model X are not produced locally.

Tesla unveiled the new Model 3 and began pre-sales of the sedan in China on September 1. On October 19, the new Model 3 officially went on sale in China. On October 26, Tesla said it had begun deliveries of the new Model 3 in China.

Tesla also launched the new Model Y with minor feature updates in China on October 1, and announced on October 15 that deliveries of the model had begun.

Tesla has previously operated the referral program in China for several years, which primarily offers 1,500 kilometers of free supercharging credits to both the referrer and car buyer.

The referral program was discontinued on September 18, 2021, and reinstated on October 24, 2022.
