    • Leapmotor vehicles will be available at select Stellantis dealers in South Africa starting in September, with more models expected to be launched within the next year.
    • Leapmotor delivered 48,006 vehicles in June, marking the second consecutive month of record-breaking sales.

Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) models will become available in South Africa this year, leveraging the sales network of Stellantis NV (NYSE: STLA), Europe’s second-largest automaker, to expand the global reach of its products.

Stellantis will launch the Leapmotor brand in South Africa, with the C10 extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) as the first model, following its successful debut in Mauritius, according to Mike Whitfield, managing director of Stellantis South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Whitfield mentioned the plan during the Stellantis Week 2025 event, according to a statement released today.

Leapmotor vehicles will be available at select Stellantis dealerships in South Africa starting in September, with more models, including fully electric vehicles, expected to be launched within the next year.

Whitfield noted that the launch of the Leapmotor brand in South Africa is a testament to Stellantis’ continual evolution.

Stellantis invested 1.5 billion euros in Leapmotor in 2023, acquiring about 20 percent equity, making it the largest external shareholder of the Chinese EV maker.

On May 14, 2024, Leapmotor announced the official establishment of Leapmotor International, a joint venture in which Stellantis holds 51 percent equity and Leapmotor holds the remaining 49 percent.

To date, several Leapmotor models are already available in overseas markets, including the C10 and T03 compact EVs.

Leapmotor has launched several facelifted models and new models this year, which have been a key driver of its strong sales performance.

On July 11, Leapmotor launched the updated C11 SUV in China, following the launch of the updated C16 SUV, updated C10 SUV, updated T03, and the new B10 SUV.

The company will launch the B01 on July 24. The electric sedan began pre-sales in China on June 29, with a starting pre-sale price of RMB 105,800 ($14,750).

Leapmotor currently sells the T03, B10, C01, C10, C11, and C16 models in China. Except for the T03 and B10, which are only available as BEV variants, all other models also offer EREV variants.

The company delivered 48,006 vehicles in June, marking the second consecutive month of record-breaking sales, according to data released on July 1.

    ($1 = RMB 7.1750)

Leapmotor and Stellantis plan to start production of the Leapmotor C10 SUV in Malaysia by the end of 2025.
