Chinese electric vehicle (EV) startup Leapmotor has begun pre-sales in China for the C10, the company’s first global model, which made its world debut at the September 2023 Munich auto show.

Like Leapmotor’s other two C-series models — the C01 and C11 — the C10 is available in both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) versions.

The pre-sale price range for the C10 EREV is RMB 151,800 ($21,170) to RMB 181,800, and the pre-sale price range for the C10 BEV is RMB 155,800 to RMB 185,800.

The Leapmotor C10 is roughly half the price of Li Auto’s (NASDAQ: LI) five-seat SUV, the Li L7, which is only available in EREV versions and is currently priced at a starting price of RMB 319,800, RMB 339,800, and RMB 379,800 for three options.

The Leapmotor C10 measures 4,739 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,680 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,825 mm, while the Li L7 is larger, with dimensions of 5,050 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width and 1,750 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 3,005 mm.

The model supports the optional LiDAR and is the company’s first vehicle to be equipped with the component, which is placed on the roof of the car like the Max versions of Li Auto vehicles.

The Leapmotor C10’s cockpit is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, which is the preferred cockpit chip for new high-end models released in the past few months.

The C10 EREV has a CLTC range of 210 kilometers on battery power and a combined CLTC range of 1,190 kilometers on a full tank of fuel and full charge.

The C10 BEV has a CLTC range of 530 kilometers and uses lithium iron phosphate batteries supplied by CALB.

Founded in 2015, Leapmotor’s models on sale include the mini EV T03, coupe model S01, flagship SUV model C11, and flagship sedan C01.

Leapmotor initially offered only BEV models and announced plans to release EREV models in 2022 to target the larger market for plug-in hybrids.

The company unveiled the C10, its mid-size SUV based on the latest Leap 3.0 architecture, at IAA Mobility on September 4, 2023, in Munich, Germany.

Leapmotor showcased the C10 at the Guangzhou auto show in November, marking its debut in China.

Leapmotor delivered a record 18,618 vehicles in December and 144,155 in 2023, up 29.67 percent from 111,168 in 2022.

    ($1 = RMB 7.1707)

Stellantis to acquire 20% stake in Leapmotor with €1.5 billion investment, to form JV for international markets
