CATL‘s share continues to rank first in the world and remains the only global battery supplier with a market share of more than 30 percent.

From January to October, total global electric vehicle (EV) battery consumption was 552.2 GWh, up 44.0 percent from 383.4 GWh in the same period last year, according to data released on December 6 by South Korean market research firm SNE Research.

CATL’s battery installations from January to October amounted to 203.8 GWh, up 51.1 percent from 134.9 GWh in the same period last year.

The Chinese power battery giant continued to rank first in the world with a 36.9 percent share, and remains the only battery supplier in the world with a market share of more than 30 percent.

That was up from its 35.2 percent share in the same period last year and from its 36.8 percent share in the January-September period.

BYD installed 87.5 GWh of power batteries in the January-October period, up 66.5 percent from 52.5 GWh in the same period last year.

The company ranked second in the January-October period with a 15.8 percent share, up from 13.7 percent in the same period last year and unchanged from January-September.

South Korea’s LG Energy Solution had a 47.2 percent year-on-year increase in power battery installations to 76.1 GWh in the January-October period.

The South Korean company ranked third in the world with a 13.8 percent share, up from 13.5 percent a year earlier but down from 14.3 percent in the January-September period.

Japan’s Panasonic was fourth with a 6.8 percent share, South Korea’s SK On was fifth with a 5.1 percent share, and China’s CALB was sixth with a 4.7 percent share.

South Korea’s Samsung SDI, China’s Gotion High-tech, Eve Energy, and Sunwoda ranked seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively, with shares of 4.6 percent, 2.4 percent, 2.1 percent, and 1.4 percent from January through October.

The order of these companies in the latest rankings is the same as last month’s.

Gotion High-tech replaced Eve Energy as the 8th-ranked battery manufacturer in Jan-September.

Gotion had 9.1 GWh of batteries installed in January-August, placing it at No. 9 with a 2.1 percent share in the rankings published by SNE Research in August.

Eve Energy had 9.2 GWh of batteries installed in January-August, placing it No. 8 in the rankings at the time.

Some battery makers in China to be forced to cut or halt production due to lack of orders, says TrendForce
