BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDF) has released the first official images of the Yuan Up as it continues to warm up for the latest addition to its hot-selling Yuan family.

The new energy vehicle (NEV) maker posted six images of the Yuan Up on Weibo today, showing the model from multiple angles.

As an A0-segment SUV, the Yuan Up has compact dimensions, but the overall styling is that of a typical SUV.

On January 23, BYD began previewing the Yuan Up, calling it the first A0-segment SUV on its e-Platform 3.0.

The e-Platform 3.0 is BYD’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) technology platform, unveiled on April 19, 2021 during the Shanghai auto show. The platform’s first model is the BYD Dolphin, which officially went on sale on August 29, 2021.

The A0 segment usually refers to those with a wheelbase between 2.2 meters and 2.5 meters. BYD categorizes both the Dolphin and the Yuan Plus in the A0 class, though they are larger than the class.

The Dolphin measures 4,125 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.

BYD hasn’t announced the Yuan Up’s dimensions, but a previous regulatory filing showed the model’s length, width and height to be 4,310 mm, 1,830 mm and 1,675 mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm.

The Yuan Up will be powered by a single electric motor, which comes in two options with peak power of 70-kW and 130-kW, according to the regulatory filing in December.

The model comes in 1,430 kg, 1,520 kg and 1,540 kg versions and supports speeds of up to 160 km/h.

BYD will offer three versions of the Yuan Up, all with a range of 401 kilometers, according to several local media reports earlier this week.

Dealers will need to pay RMB 120,000, RMB 125,000, and RMB 130,000 for each of the three versions when picking up the vehicle, according to these reports.

BYD dealers usually pick up a model at a price slightly higher than the final selling price and receive a refund for the difference when the vehicle is officially launched.

BYD sold a record 341,043 NEVs in December, including 340,178 passenger cars and 865 commercial vehicles, according to figures it announced on January 1.

The Yuan family sold 41,681 units in December, up 41.44 percent year-on-year while down 1.52 percent from November.

In 2023, Yuan family models sold 428,580 units, up 87.14 percent year-on-year, contributing 14 percent of BYD’s annual NEV sales of 3,024,417 units, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

BYD is expected to announce its sales in January later today.
