BYD presented six models on the first day of the IAA Munich auto show on September 4 and made the Seal from the Ocean range officially available in Europe.

The six models are the Seal, Song Plus EV, Atto 3 known as Yuan Plus in China, Dolphin, Han, and Denza D9.

The BYD Seal is offered in two versions in Europe with starting prices of 44,900 euros ($48,210) and 50,990 euros.

The battery electric vehicle (BEV) model initially went on sale in China on July 29, 2022 and was seen as one of the strongest rivals to the Tesla Model 3.

The BYD Seal is currently available in five versions in China with a starting price range of RMB 189,800 ($26,000) to RMB 279,800.

BYD rebranded the Chaser 07 as the Seal DM-i on July 14 as a hybrid variant of the Seal. The model went on pre-sale at the Chengdu auto show late last month.

The Song Plus EV’s display at the Munich auto show was the model’s European debut, and it will go on sale there shortly, BYD said today.

BYD’s passenger new energy vehicles (NEVs) have entered 15 European countries in nearly a year, opening more than 140 stores in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain with local partners, said Michael Shu, general manager of the company’s European car sales division.

The BYD passenger NEVs are now in 54 countries and territories worldwide, according to a BYD press release.

BYD introduced three BEVs — the Atto 3, Han, and Tang — to the European market on September 28, 2022, marking the beginning of its passenger NEV’s entry into Europe.

The Chinese NEV giant wants to build a plant in Europe, and France is one of the countries it was considering, with Spain and Germany also in the running, according to French media outlet Les Echos in a May 22 story.

“Discussions with BYD are continuing,” the report quoted an unnamed one French minister as saying.
