The Tesla Cybertruck is closer and closer to market launch, as the manufacturer is moving to the last stages of testing. This weekend a Tesla Cybertruck test vehicle was spotted towing a large trailer on public roads, most likely to empirically check the pickup’s capabilities. We don’t know whether the trailer was empty or full, but the Cybertruck does not seem to have any problem keeping up with normal traffic. Posts with videos and photos of the Tesla Cybertruck towing a trailer were shared by omg_Tesla/Rivian (@omg_tesla / X), which explains: “Funny story, first I saw a Cybertruck on a…
We tend to get mesmerized by the latest news about electric supercars from Ferrari, Rimac, or Alfa Romeo, but in the larger scheme of things, those cars do little to move the EV revolution forward by any significant amount. The latest news from Volkswagen is much less sexy, but arguably more important to the electric car transition. Electrify France Brings Fast Charging To French Drivers Courtesy of Volkswagen Taking a page from its Electrify America fast charging network in the US — which was launched in part as penance for its diesel emissions cheating scandal — Volkswagen Group is creating…
Mercedes-Benz Trucks has successfully concluded the testing of its all-electric eActros 600 semi-truck in Spain’s scorching heat, the brand said in a press release. The long-range hauler spent five weeks in temperatures hovering around 111 degrees Fahrenheit in southern Spain’s Andalusia. The German automaker’s commercial division is popular in Europe, where it sells several models, electric and gas-powered, of the Actros and Axor series semi-trucks. The eActros 600 looks similar to the gas-powered version and the eActros 300 trailer. Three battery packs combine for a capacity exceeding 600 kilowatt-hours, which can reportedly deliver a range of around 310 miles. That’s…
Daimler recently launched a new class 4-5 medium-duty electric truck brand, RIZON, and we got a chance to kick the tires and drive one around. We came away impressed at how well it drives (for an 18k GVWR vehicle) and how comfortable it feels like it would be on long shifts. Rizon is a new brand from Daimler Trucks focusing entirely on zero-emissions in the class 4-5 space. Trucks of this size don’t require commercial driver’s licenses, and you’re more likely to see them around your neighborhood, doing local delivery tasks, equipment rentals, moving businesses, and the like. So it’s…

Reports this week said that Tesla unveiled a new artificial intelligence computing cluster, and some say the move could also make the automaker a strong AI play. The new $300 million supercomputer is expected to use Nvidia hardware, despite also pitting Tesla against the tech company in the stock market. A Tesla Model 3. Image by Casey Murphy / EVANNEX. Oppenheimer analyst Rick Schafer said in a report on Tuesday that Tesla was debuting a $300 million AI computing cluster, as detailed by Barron’s. The supercomputer is expected to be used for Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta down the road, and Schafer described…
Hyundai Motor America reported 65,046 vehicle sales in the United States in August, which is one percent more than a year ago. The year-to-date result amounted to 526,186 units (up 12 percent year-over-year). Meanwhile, sales of Hyundai’s E-GMP-base all-electric car – Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 – continue to quickly increase. In August, the company sold 5,235 Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 in the US, which is about a 245 percent increase year-over-year and 8.0 percent of the total volume. This result is very impressive and second only to an even better July. On top of that comes sales of…
Subaru of America reports 56,407 vehicle sales in August (up 12.5 percent year-over-year), which marks 13 consecutive months of year-over-year growth. During the first eight months of 2023, the company sold 410,885 vehicles in the United States (16 percent more than a year ago). Sales of all-electric Subaru cars are still only a small part of the total volume but it’s increasing and most recently reached a new monthly record. In August, Subaru Solterra sales amounted to 915 units, the highest result so far, which makes us wonder whether a four-digit level will be achieved at some point later this…
At the Munich auto show this week, Mini is showing the first two of what it claims will be part of a full lineup of EVs. The duo debuting at the show includes a redesigned version of the Mini Cooper hatchback and a first-ever all-electric version of the Mini Countryman crossover. Both are expected to reach the U.S. for the 2025 model year. Previewed in May, the redesigned Cooper brings an updated version of the styling from previous Mini models developed under BMW ownership. It still sports short front and rear overhangs and large headlights, but Mini ditched the latter’s…
