In August, new passenger car registrations in the United Kingdom increased by 24 percent year-over-year to 85,657. After eight months of 2023, the total number of new registrations amounted to 1,179,298 (up 20 percent year-over-year). The growth of plug-in electric car sales is significantly higher than in the case of the general market, which allows EVs to noticeably improve market share. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reports that 23,844 new plug-in cars were registered last month (72 percent more than a year ago), which is 27.8 percent of the total market (compared to 20.2 percent a year…
Tesla has launched a new accessory in partnership with McDonald’s, and it is so dumb that CEO Elon Musk didn’t believe it was real. Tesla China has been known to be way more active than its Western counterparts when it comes to marketing and the use of social media. Its Weibo account (the Chinese equivalent of Twitter/X) is quite active. The team has also come up with new “lifestyle” accessories that are only available in China, like the Tesla in-car karaoke microphone and the CyberVault. Now Tesla’s official Weibo account has announced a new promotional partnership with McDonald’s China to…
Tesla’s so-called Full Self-Driving assistance suite has a new feature called “Autosteer on City Streets” under its belt, besides the previously available traffic light and stop sign control. Now, the company’s online configurator describes the Full Self-Driving Capability as: “Your car will be able to drive itself almost anywhere with minimal driver intervention and will continuously improve.” Before this latest silent update to its website, which was noticed by Sawyer Merritt on X, Tesla had listed the “Autosteer on City Streets” feature as “Coming soon” for over four years. The change comes after a series of modifications to the…
Recently, CleanTechnica published my article about old age and electric vehicles. It got a much bigger response than I expected, so I thought, why not share some of the other stories people sent me about their experiences with EVs as they enter the third age. Many thanks to those who contributed stories and ideas from CleanTechnica and from Facebook. Concerns raised were: Can you get your walker in the boot? Does your grey hair clash with the colour of your car? Can a Tesla Model 3 replace a pacemaker or play cupid? Let’s start with an electric romance. Turns out…

At the end of BMW’s Vision Neue Klasse presentation on September 2, 2023, the automaker teased an upcoming electric SUV. The Vision Neue Klasse electric sedan, which debuted at the 2023 IAA Mobility International Motor Show in Munich, Germany, will enter production in 2025, but a Neue Klasse SUV seems to be under testing already. The presentation showcased the camouflaged SUV’s side profile before it rocketed off the line on what looked like a test track (at 26:49 in the video above). It appeared to have production body panels and a stretched-out wheelbase with shorter overhangs than the iX3, which…
In recent years, automakers have announced new EV investments totaling $154 billion and creating 188,000 jobs, largely catalyzed by President Biden’s EV policies. A new map shows where it’s all happening in the US. The new interactive mapping tool was created by BlueGreen Alliance and Atlas Public Policy. It aggregates all the investment in EV-related facilities – battery, automotive and parts manufacturing – throughout the US. Investments in EV facilities have increased rapidly in recent years, peaking in 2022, the year the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was passed. The IRA extended the US federal EV tax credit for the next decade, but…
As with most things in life, getting into cycling – be it electric or otherwise – can very easily be a rabbit hole. The endless selection of upgrades and accessories mean that there are countless ways for us to configure our two-wheelers. On top of that, buying stuff online can lead to us splurging on stuff we’re not even 100-percent sure would suit our bikes. German bike-packing specialist Cyclite seems to have come up with a rather innovative solution when it comes to selling its products. By making use of modern technology found in most smartphones, Cyclite has come up…
The VW ID.4 gets more power and more driving range in some forms for 2024. The Toyota Prius and Prius Prime make the safety honor roll. And we look at some of the many models from German automakers to debut at Munich over the holiday weekend. This and more, here at Green Car Reports. Despite their excellent mpg, range, and efficiency numbers, the 2023 Toyota Prius and Prius Prime plug-in hybrid are among the vehicles landing a spot on the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ list. It should be noted these revamped models are more thrilling to drive and look at,…
Everybody is in favor of renewable energy, just as long as they don’t have to look at solar panels or wind turbines. Oddly, those same people don’t care a fig if there is an oil derrick or fracking rig in their backyard or in the farmer’s field next door. The Ray is a solar power advocacy group that has a novel idea. It says the various state transportation departments own and maintain significant amounts of land along highways. These “right-of-way” areas are appealing locations for renewable energy development for many reasons including: unshaded acreage ease of access public ownership status…
