Tesla has broken ground on the site of its planned futuristic diner with a drive-in theater and Supercharger station. Yes, it sounds like that crazy project is actually happening. This project has been in the works for a long time. In 2018, Elon Musk said that Tesla planned to open an “old school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in Los Angeles.” It was yet another “Is he joking?” kind of Elon Musk idea, but he wasn’t kidding. A few months later, Tesla applied for building permits for “a restaurant and Supercharger station” at a…
By now, you probably know pretty much all there is to know about the facelifted Tesla Model 3 that debuted in late August in Europe, the Middle East, and other global markets – not yet in North America, though. The so-called Project Highland brings a series of enhancements when it comes to design, aerodynamics, efficiency, range, comfort, features, and more. It’s actually surprising how much the Model 3 has changed both inside and out, and this walkaround video courtesy of Mr. Automotive does a great job of highlighting what’s new on Tesla’s compact executive sedan. The full tour of the…
Some areas of the United States amaze when in comes to the adoption rate of plug-in electric cars, far exceeding the average level. According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) data from December 2022 – highlighted by the Department of Energy (DOE)’s Vehicle Technologies Office – in four counties, light-duty all-electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle market penetration exceeds 30 percent. All four happen to be in California. The top one is Santa Clara County with a 35 share of rechargeable cars registered among 2022 model year vehicles. The next one is Marin County with 34 percent, followed by…

If you’re lured in by the likes of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 or Kia EV6, or even the Ford Mustang Mach-E or Tesla Model Y, the 2024 Honda Prologue simply isn’t for you. That’s because you won’t find design overtures effectively remaking the shape of the vehicle around an EV skateboard platform. Or splashy styling themes that look drawn from gaming or music. Or a minimalist interface. Or super-fast charging. Or a frunk. What DO you get? In a private, in-person preview earlier this month set up by Honda, I got a first look at the Prologue, as well as…

The 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid gains a new Nightshade Edition grade, but keeps its impressive fuel economy. A crossover that borrows underpinnings and a name from the ubiquitous Corolla sedan and hatchback, the Corolla Cross made its debut for 2022, but it arrived as a hybrid for 2023. So changes are minimal for 2024, encompassing an updated wireless device charger for the SE and XSE models (but not the base S), and the new Nightshade Edition. 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Based on the SE grade, the Nightshade gets blacked-out exterior badges, black outside door handles and mirrors, and…

The Gulf Stream transport of water through the Florida Straits has slowed by 4% over the past four decades, with 99% certainty that this weakening is more than expected from random chance, according to a new study. New Zealand is the latest market where Tesla launched its Non-Tesla Supercharger Pilot program, which allows for the recharging of other electric vehicles at Superchargers. According to the company, six Supercharging sites are now available for all EVs (compatible with the locally used CCS2 charging connector, natively used also by Tesla). That’s about a third of all Supercharging stations in New Zealand. Australia was included in the program in early 2023, and currently, it seems that more than half (roughly 30 locations) were opened to all EVs. The Non-Tesla Supercharger Pilot also accelerated in the United States, where Tesla deployed…
