Tesla’s legal hurdles concerning its Autopilot driver assistance system are far from over. A critical trial began yesterday over the death of one Micah Lee, allegedly caused due to a malfunctioning Autopilot system. Lee’s estate brought a civil lawsuit against Tesla, and the case is being heard in California’s Riverside County Superior Court. Lee’s Tesla Model 3 allegedly veered off a highway east of Los Angeles at 65 miles per hour, collided with a palm tree, and engulfed into flames. The German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) announced the list of ten companies that won a large tender to build around 900 DC fast charging stations with almost 8,000 individual EV chargers (from 4 to 16 per site). Swedish battery firm Northvolt on Thursday said it would build a $5.2 billion (USD) EV battery factory in Canada’s Quebec province—its first outside of Europe. Known as Northvolt Six, the factory will be located just outside Montreal, according to a company press release. The first phase of construction is scheduled to start this year, with the goal of getting the factory operational by 2026. The factory will initially have 30 gigawatt-hours of annual battery production capacity, later expanding to 60 gigawatt-hours.
