    China EV battery installations in Sept: CATL’s share falls to 39.41%, BYD rises to 27%

    CATL‘s share fell by 4.88 percentage points in September from August, while BYD‘s rose by 0.03 percentage points.

    CATL’s share of China’s electric vehicle (EV) battery market slipped in September, while BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) rose.

    In September, China’s power battery installed base was 36.4 GWh, up 15.1 percent year-on-year and up 4.4 percent from August, according to data released today by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).

    CATL’s power battery installed capacity in September was 14.35 GWh, ranking first with a 39.41 percent share, down 4.88 percentage points from August’s 44.29 percent share.

    BYD’s power battery installed capacity was 9.83 GWh in September, ranking second with a 27 percent share, up 0.03 percentage points from 26.97 percent in August.

    BYD’s share of China’s power battery market was around 34 percent in both January and February. Since March, BYD’s share has been below 30 percent except in May.

    CALB, with 3.66 GWh of power batteries installed in September, ranked third with a 10.06 percent share, up 0.37 percentage points from 9.69 percent in August.

    Eve Energy returned to fourth place in September with 1.84 GWh of installed capacity and a 5.06 percent share. In August, the company was fifth with a 3.51 percent share, and its previous fourth spot was taken by Gotion High-tech.

    Gotion High-tech, with 1.47 GWh loaded in September, ranked fifth with a 4.04 percent share.

    Gotion’s ranking was overtaken by Eve Energy in April, and this continued into July, with Gotion overtaking Eve Energy in August to rank fourth.

    China’s Li-ion ternary battery installed base amounted to 12.2 GWh in September, accounting for 33.6 percent of the total installed base, up 9.1 percent year-on-year and up 13.2 percent from August.

    The installed volume of LFP batteries was 24.2 GWh, accounting for 66.4 percent of the total installed volume, up 18.6 percent year-on-year, and up 0.6 percent from August.

    In the LFP battery market, BYD topped the list with a 40.65 percent share of the LFP battery market in September with an installed volume of 9.83 GWh, up from 39.11 percent in August.

    CATL’s installed base of 6.87 GWh in the LFP battery market ranked second with a 28.42 percent share in September, down from 35.13 percent in August.
