Nio (NYSE: NIO) surpassed the 1,900 mark for battery swap stations in China and saw a record number of services in a single day on the eve of a major holiday.

The electric vehicle (EV) maker today put 9 new battery swap stations into operation in China, bringing the total number of the facility to 1,904, and 560 of them are located along highways, its charging map data show.

So far this month, Nio has added 130 new battery swap stations in China, 100 of which were added in the last 14 days.

Nio provided 75,673 battery swaps on September 28, an all-time high for a single day, with battery swap stations along highways providing 16,779 services, the company said today on Weibo.

As of September 28, Nio had 1,895 battery swap stations in China, including 552 along highways.

That means the company provided an average of 40 services per battery swap station on September 28, with stations along highways providing an average of 30.4 services per station.

September 28 is the last working day before this year’s National Day holiday in China, which is usually the start of the peak travel period. The holiday runs from September 29 to October 6, and October 7 and October 8 will be workdays, although they are weekends.

In addition to seeing a record number of single-day battery swap services, Nio also saw more than 1,500 battery upgrades on September 28 that pay on a daily basis.

On July 20, Nio announced at the third annual Nio Power Day event that it started allowing owners to upgrade their standard 70/75-kWh range battery packs to 100-kWh long range battery packs on a daily basis. Previously, owners could only upgrade annually or monthly, or permanently.

The additional cost for daily upgrades was RMB 50 ($6.80) per day, while the cost per 31 days would not exceed the RMB 880 monthly upgrade fees, according to Nio’s plan announced at the time.

On September 5, Nio said the cost of upgrading the battery pack on a daily basis would increase to RMB 68 starting September 25, and the daily price for the battery upgrade would drop back down to RMB 50 on October 7 as the holiday ends.

As of September 28, Nio had cumulatively provided more than 20,000 battery upgrades that pay on a daily basis, it said today.
