BYD sold 145,627 BEVs in August, up 76.14 percent year-on-year, and 128,459 PHEVs, up 40.70 percent.

BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY), China’s largest new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, sold 274,386 NEVs in August, a new record high, according to a Hong Kong stock exchange announcement today.

That’s up 56.87 percent year-on-year and up 4.66 percent from July, the seventh sequential increase.

In the January-August period, BYD sold 1,792,184 NEVs, up 83.10 percent year-on-year.

BYD ceased production and sales of vehicles powered entirely by internal combustion engines in March last year, switching to focus on producing plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles.

BYD’s NEVs include passenger cars as well as commercial vehicles, with sales of passenger cars totaling 274,086 units in August, up 57.54 percent from 173,977 units a year earlier and up 4.97 percent from 261,105 units in July.

BYD’s commercial NEVs sold 300 units in August, down 68.02 percent from 938 units in the same month last year and down 71.59 percent from 1,056 units in July.

Of its passenger NEVs, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sold 145,627 units, up 76.14 percent from 82,678 units a year ago and up 8.05 percent from 134,783 units in July.

Its passenger plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) stood at 128,459 units, up 40.70 percent from 91,299 units a year ago and up 1.69 percent from 126,322 units in July.

In August, BYD sold 25,023 NEVs in overseas markets, up 37.72 percent from 18,169 in July.

The company first announced its overseas sales figures for NEVs in 2022 in July.

In addition to being China’s largest NEV company, BYD is also China’s second-largest power battery maker after CATL.

BYD’s installed base of power and energy storage batteries amounted to about 13.928 GWh in August, up 84.40 percent from 7.553 GWh a year earlier and up 12.27 percent from 12.406 GWh in July.

BYD aims to sell at least 3 million vehicles this year and aims to reach 3.6 million, the company’s chairman and president Wang Chuanfu said in late March.

BYD sees Q2 net profit rise 65% from Q1 to $936 million
