The Lynk & Co 900 Is A Comfortable, 845-Horsepower Hybrid Luxury Beast

Your favorite odd couple is back: me and Editor-in-Chief Patrick George. This time, we’re behind the wheel of something that actually may be more relevant to U.S. market car buyers—the Lynk & Co 900. This plug-in hybrid promises to hit all the right notes of an electric car melded with a gas-powered one. It’s not an EREV, but it can act like one.

This was during this year’s Shanghai Auto Show. Patrick and I were carted off about two hours from Shanghai to Hangzhou, which is the home base of Lynk & Co’s parent company, Geely.

We’ve talked about this car before here at InsideEVs, and both of us were impressed with the level of refinement and power of the 900.

For those who don’t know, the 900 is Lynk & Co’s flagship SUV. It is based on a modified platform used in the Volvo XC90 called SPA Evo, and is strictly a plug-in hybrid. The front half of the car has either a 1.5- or 2.0-liter turbo engine mated to Geely’s “dedicated hybrid system”, while the electrified car part comes from big motors and batteries that match what you’d find in a high-performance EV.

The unit we drove had a 52.4 kWh battery and three electric motors that could deliver a stunning 845 horsepower.

It was all really, really nice. So nice that Patrick George said this was probably his favorite car he got behind the wheel of in China. The thing is quick, quiet and well finished. And the kicker is it’s not even all that expensive. Since we drove the 900, Lynk & Co has released pricing. The 900 can be had for as little as $42,500, although our top-of-the-line example would be just shy of $60,000.

That’s still a crazy, crazy deal. For not much more than a top trim Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid, you get a bigger car with far more power. This is why the world has a hard time keeping up with China.

Anyway, give the video a gander.
