BYD‘s (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) premium brand, Denza, will launch a new hybrid SUV (sport utility vehicle), the N8L, according to a regulatory filing.
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) today released a new regulatory catalog for public comment, and the Denza N8L is included.
The public can submit feedback between May 24-30. Entry into the catalog is the last major regulatory process by which a model can be allowed to be sold in China.
There are two pages for the Denza N8L in the catalog, with product model numbers QCJ6520AP6HEV1 and QCJ6520AP6HEV2.
They are both plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models, and production addresses include BYD’s multiple production bases in cities such as Changsha, Hunan province, Hefei, Anhui province, and Jinan, Shandong province.
The six-seater SUV measures 5,200 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width and 1,820/1,990 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3,075 mm.
It comes with 2,980 kg and 3,040 kg options in terms of curb weight and supports a top speed of 220 km/h.
The Denza N8L is powered by BYD’s e3 technology, as shown by its rear logo.
The e3 technology can be considered as a scaled-down version of BYD’s e4 technology built for ultra-luxury cars that brings tri-motor independent drive with rear-wheel steering.
The Denza N8L’s front motor has a peak power of 200 kW and both rear motors have a peak power of 180 kW.
It has an engine displacement of 1,995 ml and 152 kW.
The N8L looks like a slightly scaled-down version of Denza’s N9 flagship SUV launched in March, which measures 5,258 mm in length, 2,030 mm in width and 1,830 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,125 mm.
The Denza N9 is powered by BYD’s e3 technology and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.9 seconds.
The Denza N9 went on sale on March 21 and is offered in two variants with starting prices of RMB 389,800 ($54,260) and RMB 449,800 respectively.
On May 21, Denza announced that it saw the 10,000th vehicle of the Denza N9 roll off the production line, two months after the large luxury SUV was launched.
Denza launched another model N8 in August 2023, but the hybrid SUV has been discontinued. The exterior design of the N8L is very different from the N8.
($1 = RMB 7.1840)
Denza N9 starts at $53,770 and will compete in the large luxury SUV segment against Li Auto’s Li L9 and Aito’s M9.
