Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) will debut a new electric sedan as early as next week, further diversifying its sedan lineup, CnEVPost has learned from a reliable source.
The new sedan, internally codenamed E29, will have a powerful powertrain as one of its main selling points, according to the source.
Xpeng’s sedans currently on sale are the Mona M03, P7+ and P7i, with the Mona M03 and P7+ being the main sellers.
By the end of March, 95,739 units of the Mona M03 had been delivered since its launch in August last year, and 41,392 units of the P7+ since its launch in November last year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Earlier today, Xpeng said the P7+ reached its 50,000th production milestone five months after its launch.
The company’s first sedan, the P7, began deliveries in May 2020, and the model’s sleek exterior design has seen it do well after its launch.
In March 2023, Xpeng launched the P7i sedan as the successor to the P7. In the past few months, the sedan, which has not been updated in the last 2 years, has sold less than 1,000 units per month.
The new Xpeng sedan slated for unveiling next month will likely be officially called the P7 Ultra. Ultra is a word often used for powerful vehicles in China’s electric vehicle (EV) industry.
Xpeng filed a trademark application for the P7 Ultra in February, and the status of the trademark is currently pending substantive examination.
The company launched a faster charging variant for the P7+ on April 23, the first day of the 2025 Shanghai auto show, replacing the most expensive variant previously available.
There are still three variants of the P7+ available, starting at RMB 186,800 ($25,680), RMB 198,800, and RMB 208,800 respectively.
All three variants are single-motor rear-wheel-drive models, with the entry-level version having a peak motor power of 180 kW and peak torque of 450 Nm, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. The other two variants both have 230 kW of peak motor power and 450 Nm of peak torque and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.
The specifications of the P7+ don’t emphasize on performance but on range and charging speed to target family users. It has a CLTC range of up to 725 km and can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in as little as 12 minutes.
The new sedan codenamed E29 could get dual electric motors for a more powerful powertrain. But that will also mean it will have higher prices.
This will be a year of intense new model introductions for Xpeng, and its management said on a March 18 earnings call that the company would have new or facelifted model launches in every quarter of this year.
By the end of 2026, Xpeng’s offerings would cover a price band of RMB 100,000 yuan to RMB 500,000 yuan for compact to large vehicles, the company said.
Xpeng launched updated versions of its G6 and G9 SUVs on March 13 and the updated X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) on April 15.
The company’s new SUV, the G7, made into a regulatory filing catalog in January.
