Seagull is the latest in the Ocean range offered by BYD in Brazil and Mexico, following the Seal and Dolphin.

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the Seagull, a mini electric vehicle, in Brazil and Mexico, bringing its least expensive model to South America.

The Seagull was recently launched in Brazil and Mexico, making it the latest Ocean series model offered by BYD in those two markets after the Seal and Dolphin, the company announced today.

This is the Seagull’s debut in the Latin American market, and the vehicle will be available in more Latin American markets in the future, BYD said.

The Seagull is called Dolphin Mini in Brazil and Mexico. The Dolphin is another slightly more expensive model in BYD’s Ocean lineup.

The BYD brand’s models include the Ocean series, named primarily after marine life and ships, and the Dynasty series, named after Chinese dynasties.

BYD launched the Seagull on April 26, 2023, and the model is currently offered in three versions in China, starting at RMB 73,800 ($10,250), RMB 78,800, and RMB 89,800, which is BYD’s least expensive.

Its two lowest-priced versions have a CLTC range of 305 kilometers, and the highest-priced one has a range of 405 kilometers.

The company launched the Qin Plus Glory Edition as well as the Chaser 05 Glory Edition on February 19, bringing the starting price of both models down to RMB 79,800, just RMB 6,000 higher than the Seagull.

BYD has yet to launch an updated version of the Seagull in this latest round of model updates.

There are two versions of the Seagull available in Mexico, with NEDC ranges of 300 kilometers and 380 kilometers, respectively, BYD said.

The model starts at 358,800 Mexican pesos ($21,100) in Mexico.

Only one version of the Seagull is available in Brazil, with an NEDC range of 380 km and can be charged from 30 percent to 80 percent in 30 minutes.

The Dolphin quickly disrupted the traditional automotive landscape in Brazil after its launch, and now the company is offering the Seagull, another attractive new product, said Tyler Li, general manager of BYD Brazil.

The Seagull is one of BYD’s best-selling models, selling 280,217 units in 2023 and contributing 9 percent of BYD’s annual sales of 3,024,417, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

BYD sold 122,311 NEVs in February, and the Seagull was the fourth-highest-selling BYD model at 13,492 units sold.
