Baidu-backed Jiyue to unveil 2nd model Jiyue 07 at Beijing auto show

The Jiyue 07 will be unveiled at the Beijing auto show in April and deliveries will begin in the second half of the year, according to local media.

Jiyue, the electric vehicle (EV) maker created by Baidu in partnership with Geely Holding Group, will reportedly unveil its second model in a few months, after letting its first model go on sale in late October 2023.

Jiyue’s second production model, the Jiyue 07, will be unveiled at the Beijing auto show in April and deliveries will begin in the second half of the year, local automotive media outlet Yiche reported today, citing official information.

The 17th Beijing International Automotive Exhibition (Auto China 2024) will be held from April 25 to May 4, 2024, and will mark the event’s return after a four-year hiatus.

The Jiyue 07’s voice and smart driving will be upgraded in the third quarter to be based on the 2.0 large language model, and the software will be upgraded every month, according to the report.

In addition, Jiyue plans to make PPA (Point to Point Autopilot) smart driving available in more than 200 cities in China in 2024, the report said.

Jiyue was renamed from the brand formerly known as Jidu. Geely and Baidu established Jidu as a joint venture in March 2021, which was then 55 percent owned by Baidu and 45 percent by Geely.

In August 2023, Geely and Baidu jointly launched the new brand, Jiyue, which essentially replaced Jidu. The operating entity of this new brand is 65 percent owned by Geely, with the remaining 35 percent owned by an affiliate of Baidu.

Jiyue officially launched the Jiyue 01 on October 27, and on October 29 the model began its first deliveries.

On December 26, Jiyue said its second model, the Jiyue 07, was the brand’s first sedan.

Jiyue did not release more information about the Jiyue 07 at the time, but shared several images of the Jiyue 07, saying that the model won the German Red Dot and iF design awards.

The Jiyue 07 will be another 7-series model in the Chinese EV market, a number that currently usually corresponds to a mid- to high-end model in an EV brand’s product matrix.

In Chinese culture, the number 9 usually represents the best of the best, and 9-series models are usually the top end of a brand’s lineup, such as Nio‘s (NYSE: NIO) executive sedan, the ET9.

The number 7 is used by many EV makers to name models that are positioned slightly lower than the top flagship model, such as the Nio ET7, while others use 7 to name their mid- to high-end models, such as the Xpeng P7, Zeekr 007, and Xiaomi SU7.
