Tesla‘s (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model S and Model X saw delivery dates extended in China, where the models are not locally produced and are sold as imported vehicles.

The latest expected delivery dates for all versions of the Model S sedan and Model X SUV are for the second quarter, changes in information on Tesla’s China website monitored by CnEVPost showed. For the past several months, the expected delivery dates for both models have been the first quarter of 2024.

The Model S is offered in China in a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version, as well as a tri-motor all-wheel-drive Plaid version, with current starting prices of RMB 698,900 ($97,470 $) and RMB 828,900, respectively.

The Model X is also offered in two versions — a regular dual-motor all-wheel-drive version and a tri-motor all-wheel-drive Plaid version, currently starting at RMB 738,900 and RMB 838,900, respectively.

Tesla’s expected delivery dates for its less expensive Model 3 sedan and Model Y SUV remain unchanged, all at 2-6 weeks. The US electric vehicle (EV) maker’s Shanghai plant produces both models.

(Vehicle information displayed on Tesla’s China website on January 24, 2024.)

Globally, the Model S and Model X made a limited contribution to Tesla’s deliveries, and together with the Cybertruck, they accounted for 22,969 deliveries in the fourth quarter, or roughly 5 percent of Tesla’s global deliveries of 484,507 units.

The Model S and Model X currently on sale in China are new versions released in 2020, which were first imported into the country in late February 2023.

The Model S initially started at RMB 789,900 in China and the Model X at RMB 879,900.

The prices of all versions of both models in China were raised by RMB 19,000 on May 5, 2023.

However, Tesla started offering discounts for the two models last July and dropped the prices by about 20 percent on September 1.

The Cybertruck was unveiled in November 2019 and deliveries begin on November 30, 2023 in the United States. The model will kick off its China tour in late January, although it may not go on sale in China anytime soon.

Eight Cybertrucks will be debuted simultaneously in eight cities — Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Xi’an, and Chongqing, local media outlet The Paper said in a report yesterday.

After the eight-city debut, all of Tesla’s other models — Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y — will embark on a nationwide tour with the Cybertruck, according to the report.
