The BYD Sea Lion 07 will be available in single- and dual-motor versions and support a top speed of 225 km/h.

BYD’s (OTCMKTS: BYDDF) new coupe SUV Sea Lion 07 — which made its debut at the Guangzhou auto show last November — made it into a regulatory filing catalog, allowing core specification information to come to light.

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released its latest catalog of models that will soon be allowed to be sold on January 15 for public comment, and the BYD Sea Lion 07 is included.

The public can submit their feedback between January 16 and January 22. Entry into the catalog is the last major regulatory process before a model can be allowed to be sold in China.

The Sea Lion 07 is a battery electric vehicle (BEV) that measures 4,830 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width and 1,620 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm, according to its filing page.

The car has three pages in MIIT’s catalog, including two single-motor versions and one dual-motor version.

Its single-motor version has two motor options with a maximum power of 170 kW and 230 kW, while the dual-motor version comes with a front motor with a maximum power of 160 kW and a rear motor with a maximum power of 230 kW.

The 170-kW version supports a top speed of 210 kilometers per hour, while the other versions have a top speed of 225 kilometers per hour.

The Sea Lion 07 comes standard with a lithium iron phosphate battery, which should be BYD’s signature blade battery.

The Sea Lion 07 was unveiled on the first day of the Guangzhou auto show on November 17, 2023, and is the first model in the Sea Lion range and the first mid-size pure electric SUV in BYD’s Ocean lineup.

The Sea Lion 07 is based on BYD’s all-electric e-Platform 3.0 platform, built by the team of Wolfgang Josef Egger, the company’s global design director, according to BYD’s previous announcement.

The Sea Lion array will further expand BYD’s marine lineup matrix and strengthen the lineup’s presence in high-value product segments, BYD said at the time.

In the future, the SUV models of the Ocean series will be integrated into the Sea Lion array, and the sedan models will be integrated into the Seal array.

The price range of the Sea Lion 07 BEV will be RMB 200,000 ($27,888) to RMB 260,000, Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD’s Ocean series sales division, said on November 19.

The model will hit the market in the first half of 2024, and BYD’s Ocean series will have three other new models on the market in 2024, Zhang previously said.

    ($1 = RMB 7.1716)
