Chinese electric vehicle (EV) startup Leapmotor has announced how its new C10 model performed within 24 hours of pre-sale to demonstrate initial acceptance.

The Leapmotor C10 received more than 15,510 pre-orders within 24 hours of starting pre-sales, the company announced last night.

Leapmotor began pre-sales of the C10 in China on January 10, and like its other two C-series models on sale — the C01 and C11 — the C10 is offered in both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) versions.

The pre-sale price range for the C10 EREV is RMB 151,800 ($21,170) to RMB 181,800, and the pre-sale price range for the C10 BEV is RMB 155,800 to RMB 185,800.

Of the more than 15,510 pre-orders, 40 percent of customers opted for the top-of-the-line versions of the C10 BEV and C10 EREV, the company said.

The Leapmotor C10 is roughly half the price of Li Auto‘s (NASDAQ: LI) five-seat SUV, the Li L7, which is only available as an EREV and is currently priced at a starting price of RMB 319,800, RMB 339,800, and RMB 379,800 for the three options.

Li Auto said yesterday that it will update the configuration of its existing models, and that the 2024 models will be released and deliveries will begin in March. The three models it currently sells are the Li L7, Li L8 and Li L9, all EREVs.

The C10, Leapmotor’s first global model, made its world debut in September 2023 at the Munich auto show. The model made its China debut at the Guangzhou auto show in November.

The Leapmotor C10 measures 4,739 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,680 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,825 mm. The Li L7 is larger, with dimensions of 5,050 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width and 1,750 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 3,005 mm.

The model supports the optional LiDAR and is the company’s first vehicle to be equipped with the component. The component is placed on the roof of the car like the Max version of Li Auto vehicles.

The Leapmotor C10’s higher-end models have a cockpit powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, which is the preferred cockpit chip for new high-end models released in the past few months. Its lower trims are powered by the Snapdragon 8155 chip.

The cockpit of all current Li Auto models is powered by the Snapdragon 8155 chip, which has been the choice of mainstream premium models for the past two years.

Upgrading the cockpit chip to the Snapdragon 8295 could be one of the major upgrades for Li Auto’s current models in March.

    ($1 = RMB 7.1685)

Leapmotor delivers record 18,618 cars in Dec
