BYD sold 263,066 retail units in China in November, and Tesla 65,504.

BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDF), Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) and Geely Auto were the top sellers of new energy vehicles (NEVs) at retail in China in November, according to rankings released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

BYD’s retail sales in China rose 20.9 percent year-on-year to 263,066 units in November, giving it a 31.3 percent share of the country’s NEV market, according to the CPCA.

Tesla’s retail sales in China rose 4.8 percent year-on-year to 65,504 in November, placing it in second place with a 7.8 percent share.

Geely’s NEV sales in November were 63,462, up 98.4 percent year-on-year, and third with a 7.6 percent share.

It’s worth noting that in China, NEVs include battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), and fuel-cell vehicles, with the former two dominating. The CPCA did not release a ranking of BEV sales.

Among the top three, BYD and Geely sell both BEVs and PHEVs, while Tesla sells only BEVs.

Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) was No. 6 with a 4.9 percent share of retail sales in November, selling 41,030 units. All of the company’s current models are extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), essentially PHEVs.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) was No. 10 with 20,041 retail sales in November and a 2.4 percent share. All of its models are BEVs.

Nio (NYSE: NIO), which did not make the ranking, delivered 15,959 vehicles in November, essentially flat from 16,074 in October.

In the January-November period, BYD was No. 1 in China’s NEV market with retail sales of 2,405,860 units and a 35.3 percent share of the market.

Tesla’s retail sales of 527,859 in China in January-November ranked second in the Chinese NEV market with a 7.8 percent share.

GAC Aion ranked third with 439,633 sales and a 6.5 percent share in January-November.

Li Auto ranked 7th with retail sales of 325,677 and a 4.8 percent share during the period.

Nio was ninth with a 2.1 percent share on 142,026 retail sales from January to November in China.

Leapmotor was 10th with 125,537 sales and a 1.8 percent share.

China’s passenger NEVs sold 841,000 units at retail in November, surpassing the 800,000-unit mark for the first time, data released by the CPCA on December 8 showed.

BEVs sold a record 552,000 units at retail in November, accounting for 65.6 percent of all NEV retail sales.

PHEVs sold a record 289,000 units at retail in November, contributing 34.4 percent of all NEV retail sales.
